On April 8th and continuing through the end of June 2015, it will be necessary for the GLX contractor, White Skanska Kiewit (WSK), to close the sidewalk and approximately 17 feet of the street on the south side of the School Street Bridge in Somerville (a one way street heading in the west direction) for the purpose of erecting a temporary utility bridge. The partial closure will leave a 12 foot wide travel lane on the north side of the bridge between Montrose Street and Richdale Avenue to vehicular, bike, and pedestrian traffic. Residents will be able to cross School Street over to the north side sidewalk to cross over the bridge.
[Update: The closure has now been moved from the south side to the north side of School Street and due to this ongoing work and coordination with utility companies, it is necessary that the School Street closure be extended. It is now estimated that the School Street closure will be re-opened in late-November/mid-December.]
The section of road and sidewalk will be closed to vehicular, bike, and pedestrian traffic starting on Wednesday, April 8th at 8:30 AM and will not reopen until the end of June 2015.
Signage providing direction and detail police providing assistance will be available to assist vehicular, bike, and pedestrian traffic.
